Watch This video- especially those who smoke

Hi everyone,

It has been exactly a week since my grandpa passed away. I would like to thanked all of you for your concern and condolences. I really appreciate it. Am feeling much better and I already taken the fact that he had passed away and he is in a better place now. He do not need to suffer any longer. However, I still miss him a lot. I still miss my grandma too. All the memories they have given me will always be in my heart.

Here is a short video of smoking. I got this video from my dad who emailed me.

Major diseases caused by smoking

    Cardiovascular disease

Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death due to smoking.

Hardening of the arteries is a process that develops over years, when cholesterol and other fats deposit in the arteries, leaving them narrow, blocked or rigid. When the arteries narrow (atherosclerosis), blood clots are likely to form.

Smoking accelerates the hardening and narrowing process in your arteries: it starts earlier and blood clots are two to four times more likely.

Cardiovasular disease can take many forms depending on which blood vessels are involved, and all of them are more common in people who smoke.

    A fatal disease
Blood clots in the heart and brain are the most common causes of sudden death.
    • Coronary thrombosis: a blood clot in the arteries supplying the heart, which can lead to a heart attack. Around 30 per cent are caused by smoking.

    • Cerebral thrombosis: the vessels to the brain can become blocked, which can lead to collapse, stroke and paralysis.

    • If the kidney arteries are affected, then high blood pressure or kidney failure results.

    • Blockage to the vascular supply to the legs may lead to gangrene and amputation.

Smokers tend to develop coronary thrombosis 10 years earlier than non-smokers, and make up 9 out of 10 heart bypass patients.

    Cancer

Smokers are more likely to get cancer than non-smokers. This is particularly true of lung cancer, throat cancer and mouth cancer, which hardly ever affect non-smokers.

The link between smoking and lung cancer is clear.

    • Ninety percent of lung cancer cases are due to smoking.

    • If no-one smoked, lung cancer would be a rare diagnosis - only 0.5 per cent of people who've never touched a cigarette develop lung cancer.

    • One in ten moderate smokers and almost one in five heavy smokers (more than 15 cigarettes a day) will die of lung cancer.

The more cigarettes you smoke in a day, and the longer you've smoked, the higher your risk of lung cancer. Similarly, the risk rises the deeper you inhale and the earlier in life you started smoking.

For ex-smokers, it takes approximately 15 years before the risk of lung cancer drops to the same as that of a non-smoker.

If you smoke, the risk of contracting mouth cancer is four times higher than for a non-smoker. Cancer can start in many areas of the mouth, with the most common being on or underneath the tongue, or on the lips.

Other types of cancer that are more common in smokers are:

    COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a collective term for a group of conditions that block airflow and make breathing more difficult, such as:

    • emphysema - breathlessness caused by damage to the air sacs (alveoli)

    • chronic bronchitis - coughing with a lot of mucus that continues for at least three months.

Smoking is the most common cause of COPD and is responsible for 80 per cent of cases.

It's estimated that 94 per cent of 20-a-day smokers have some emphysema when the lungs are examined after death, while more than 90 per cent of non-smokers have little or none.

COPD typically starts between the ages of 35 and 45 when lung function starts to decline anyway.

In smokers, the rate of decline in lung function can be three times the usual rate. As lung function declines, breathlessness begins.

As the condition progresses, severe breathing problems can require hospital care. The final stage is death from slow and progressive breathlessness.

Other risks caused by smoking

  • Smoking raises blood pressure, which can cause hypertension (high blood pressure) - a risk factor for heart attacks and stroke.

  • Couples who smoke are more likely to have fertility problems than couples who are non-smokers.

  • Smoking worsens asthma and counteracts asthma medication by worsening the inflammation of the airways that the medicine tries to ease.

  • The blood vessels in the eye are sensitive and can be easily damaged by smoke, causing a bloodshot appearance and itchiness.

  • Heavy smokers are twice as likely to get macular degeneration, resulting in the gradual loss of eyesight.

  • Smokers run an increased risk of cataracts.

  • Smokers take 25 per cent more sick days year than non-smokers.

  • Smoking stains your teeth and gums.

  • Smoking increases your risk of periodontal disease, which causes swollen gums, bad breath and teeth to fall out.

  • Smoking causes an acid taste in the mouth and contributes to the development of ulcers.

  • Smoking also affects your looks: smokers have paler skin and more wrinkles. This is because smoking reduces the blood supply to the skin and lowers levels of vitamin A.
(above information is adapted from http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/health_advice/facts/smokehealth.htm. and is written by Dr Gavin Petrie, 2005)

Therefore, this is why you shouldn't smoke. Please take care of your health. You never know what happened if you all smoke a lot. I am glad to hear that some have quit smoking after realizing how bad is smoking and how unhealthy your body can be. I still do not understand why some smoke? Some of my friends told me they smoke because of Stress... I wonder whether smoking can really release stress. I do not know and I do not want to try anyways. I just hate the smoke... It make me feel sick every time I smell smoke..

Hope this will give some of you more information about why shouldn't you all smoke..

p/s- Is just for your information. This post is not for me to force you guys not to smoke. I just wanted to share the video with you and my other friends.

Take care everyone.

RIP Ahkong

I miss you Ahkong.. My beloved grandpa had just passed away on Monday 26/5/2008 at 8.53pm. When I heard the news on that day, I was so shocked. I thought I heard it all wrong.. I was hopping that it was not true. However, it was the real fact that my grandpa have passed away. I couldn't stop crying when I got to know about it. I was totally in a daze and I didn't know what to do. After all these years, my grandpa who had been there for me since my childhood days where I usually stay there when my parents are not at home had passed away. He took us out, took us to the beach, took us to 'korek' siput and so many other memories that he had spent with us.. It will always be in my heart. I know he was sick last year, I was there in the hospital, I know he was already weak, but he never complaints. I really miss him.. I also really miss my grandma who had passed away when I was in form 4. They were both always there for me.. Cooked nice and yummy food, assam prawn, assam fish and other good food. We always stay over their place and talk and play with my cousins and both my grandparents. Now both of them had passed away. Am glad that my grandma and grandpa both passed away peacefully.

I only saw my grandpa 1 week ago before he passed away. My last words to him was I'll see you after my exam when am back in Penang. Unfortunately, that was the last time I got to see him. However, am really lucky that I went back last week to see him. He was still ok and he said that he was feeling much better compared to last time.. Life is so unpredictable.

Therefore, on Monday, when I heard the news, my aunt ask me whether I wanted to go back coz they will be driving back to Penang. I know I was having exams in 3 days time, and I wasn't even prepared.. However, nothing could have stop me, even my exam. I told her and my parents that I will go back and pay my last respect to him. So after the news, I started crying till my aunt came to fetch me back to Penang. We left at 12 am plus and reached at 4 am. The next day we were all in the funeral parlor till late night and the next day was already the funeral. I couldn't get myself to study or even do anything else. I was trying to be strong and stop crying during the funeral on Wednesday, but I couldn't. When I got home to KL on that night itself and the next day which was Thursday I had exam in the morning, I tried my best to study, but it was hard to concentrate. I know that my grandpa passed away peacefully and I should be happy for him, but I guess is still hard to forget about it..

During the exam, I couldn't do.. One word had affected me badly.. I thought I could stay strong and go do my exam, but I just couldn't. The survey question ask something about relative passed away.. something like that, and that sentence really got me badly affected.. I couldn't think.. I was feeling sad.. I couldn't even remember what I studied. However, I tried my best to still stay in the exam hall and write whatever I can remember which is not much.. I came out from the exam hall feeling emotionally down.. However, even though I already took the fact that my grandpa is gone and he died peacefully and I was happy for him, it still takes time to heal the pain.. and am sure it will..am glad that you won't need to suffer with the pain you have suffered all these while and we all also know that you are in a better place now..

Ahkong, I miss you a lot and I love you lots.. But I will take care of myself. Rest in peace Ahkong..

Before I stop this post, here is a photo of my grandpa..

In remembrance of my beloved grandpa

Thomas Cup 2008- China Vs Korea

So the final of the Thomas Cup 2008 had just ended.. And China had won Korea by 3-1. So China won it again.. Korea couldn't beat China for their first title. However, China players are still mentally and had a more fighting spirit compare to the other countries. I guess they still deserve the title. Congrats to China for winning another Thomas Cup. Good job done for the Korean players too. Hopefully in 2010, Malaysia will be able to go till to the finals and win the title.. :)Let's all wait and see.. I also personally think that although Malaysia didn't get in to the finals this year and lost 3-2 to China, I guess Malaysia gave a good fight against China, even though they lose, at least they fought till the last tie. :)

The results are as follow:
Dan Lin won Sung Hwan Park: 10-21 21-18 21

Then Korea won the first double
Yun Cai/Haifeng Fu lost to Jae Sung Jung/Yong Dae Lee: 23-25 16-21

After that the next 2 ties, China won

Chunlai Bao won Hyun Ii Lee: 28-26 21-11

Zhongbo Xie/Zhendong Guo won Jae Jin Lee/Ji Man Hwang: 21-12 19-21 21-12

That's it for now.. I got to go to study.. Haih..

And I want to eat Durian!!! Hahaha.. Hopefully tomorrow they have.. I couldn't eat my wan tan mee already this trip.. Sob sob

So if your Nuffnang members especially Glitterati members, go try your luck or show ur skills. Haha..

So back to me and the fishy game.. I played so many times. I sucks in this game.. Haha. But after countless times playing this 2 days when I was resting from studying, this is what I got.. Damn, guess stress is getting into me and this fishy game is releasing some of my stress i think.. Now since I have already broken my own record of 10 000g, I guess I won't be playing anymore and start concentrating on studying for my exams, if not I will get more addicted and I will fail my exams. Touch wood.. Hopefully I will pass.. Hahaha

Here is the screen shots of the few times I played.. Fine.. about 20 times.. Hmmpphh

This is my highest score... After so many attempts.

A few of the other time I played in the last 2 days.. Hmpphh.. which is yesterday and today..

This is only a few I save everytime i improved on my score... Haha

However, even though I break my 10 000 g record, all the other Nuffnangers are doing much better than this.. Congrats to you all.. Is seriously not a easy game to play...

Thomas Cup 2008- Indonesia and Korea

Indonesia lost to Korea by 3-0. Do you guys think Korea did a right strategy by losing 2 of their games in the group in order to choose their opponent.. Hmpphh.. Anyways, Korea won Indonesia today.. Wanna what happened if Malaysia did the same strategy and play with Indonesia instead of China. But am glad that Malaysia didn't play that strategy and show their fighting spirit to play with China. Although they had a chance to defeat China, but they just couldn't do it. Haih.. Even though Korea show unsportsmanlike to lose all their group matches but I can't blame them, is the failure of the competition format. They actually play well today and do deserve to win the matches. Now the finals will be between China and Korea.

The results are:

Sung Hwan Park won Sony Dwi Kuncoro: 21-12 12-21 21-18

Jae Sung Jung/Yong Dae Lee won Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan: 21-19 18-21 21-10

And

Hyun Ii Lee won Taufik Hidayat: 21-13 21-14

Thomas Cup 2008 Badminton

Thomas Cup Semi Finals- Malaysia lost to China.. So near yet so far... Haha.. They lost 2-3 to China.

The line-up was:

Lin Dan vs Lee Chong Wei
Cai/Fu vs Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong
Bao Chunlai vs. Wong Choong Hann
Guo/Xie vs Zakry/Fairuz
Chen Jin vs Hafiz

Lee Chong Wei beat Lin Dan: 21-12, 21-14- It was extraordinary moment

Then

Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong lost to Cai Yun/Fu HaiFeng: 16-21 17-21

After that,

Bao Chunlai won Wong Choong Hann: 21-18, 21-7

Then another extraordinary moment arrived

Zakry Abdul Latif Mohd/Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari Mohd won Xie Zhongbo/Gu Zhendong: 21-17, 21-15

And the final tie falls to Hafiz Hashim Muhammad to secure the winning point. Unfortunately he did not.

He lost to Chen Jin: 21-12 21-16

So Malaysia lost the tie by 3-2.. Anyways, it was a great fighting spirit from the Malaysian players to push China till the last tie.

Now, Indonesia is playing against Korea is another semi-finals encounter.

Take care all..
