Say No To Animal Cruelty. Furry Friends Farm

Support The Petition to Amend & Revise the 'REVISED ANIMALS ACT 1953' To Increase The Penalty For Animal Abuse and To Include The Ban Of Consuming Dogs and Cats in Malaysia.

(This petition is open to Malaysians and Non-Malaysians residing in Malaysia)

With reference to Tan
Sri Lee Lam Thye's letter titled 'Amend Archaic Animals Act 1953', published in The Star on April 24th, 2010, Furry Friends Farm is very much in agreeable to the urgent need in amending the Revised Animals Act 1953. Therefore, Furry Friends Farm is organising a National Campaign to receive full supports from all Malaysians for this Petition. We look forward to receive as many signatures as possible before The World Animal Day on this coming October 4th 2010. Furry Friends Farm will be compiling all signatures from this Campaign and deliver to The Prime Minister's Office by October, 2010.

Let Us Voice Out Together For Our Companion Animals.

In the past 5 years, animal cruelty and abuse cases have increased substantially. With the case of JOY to have to survive for life without a lower jaw after being cruelly beaten by foreign construction workers in Selayang in 2006 to the 2009 incident to where over 300 dogs from Pulau Ketam were dumped and left to die in the Pulau Selat Kering mangrove island. Malaysia has come to a crucial point in time where the REVISED ANIMALS ACT 1953 needs to be amended for harsher penalties and more effective enforcement to deter future increase of animal cruelty and abuse cases.

The current penalty for animal abuse is insufficient and inadequate to prevent animal cruelty and abuse. Therefore, we call for the REVISED ANIMALS ACT 1953 to be amended to include a more stringent penalty and punishment for animal abuse. We urge for the increase of the liable fine of RM 200 to a minimum of RM 10,000. We also propose the liable jail term to be increase from 6 months to a maximum of 2 years with the compulsory community service to be carried out in animal shelters for a minimum of 4 hours per day during jail term. We also press upon the need to include the ban of consuming dogs and cats to the REVISED ANIMALS ACT 1953 as dogs and cats are companion animals.

Malaysia, as a fast developing country is in dire need to have the REVISED ANIMALS ACT 1953 to be amended and revised to be on par with the nation economic and socio development as well to international animal laws in preventing animal cruelty and abuse. We wish for Malaysian to be known as a compassionate and caring society rather than a country that condones animal cruelty and abuse.

Therefore, an urgent and crucial amendment to the REVISED ANIMALS ACT 1953 is greatly needed.
